User Guide &
Instructions for Conversion Widget
 |
Installation and Tips |
conversionWidget is a simple yet powerful tool turning
your static landing pages into personalized
response pages through dynamic keyword
insertion. Below are the instructions for
adapting your website pages. Here are a few
preparation steps:
-
This
requires minimal website authoring
experience. You should be able to
access, and edit to the html of the
desired landing pages.
-
Conversion
Widget uses javascript code placements
(just like Google Analytics).
-
You must
have access to the web directories where
your landing pages are hosted – so as to
place the Conversion Widget file.
-
Conversion
Widget uses an Active Server Page format
– your hosting should be able to
accommodate .asp web pages.
-
You should
have access to your Google search
campaign (Google AdWords) so the
keywords can be “pointed” to the correct
url.
 |
How it Works
|
conversionWidget utilizes the same
technology from the
VisitorTrack®
engine to capture information directly from
a
website visitors
browser. This includes the referring search
engine and the keywords used by that Visitor
- all in real time without any Visitor
registration action.
Once the
keywords have been captured, they can be
inserted through javascript into the other
html content of your web page. This can be
done in a way that is completely natural,
and assures the Visitors your Company
provides the products or services they are
seeking. See the example below – the yellow
shaded areas indicate the Conversion Widget
“placements” on the page using dynamic
keyword insertion.

Steps for Using conversionWidget
|
1. Download
the conversionWidget File
Please visit the following web page where
you may
download the javascript file
Please click
the button for Download, then the option to
Save. Save the file to a file/location where
you will be able to access it later.
2. Create
or Adapt your Landing Pages
conversionWidget works with the landing
pages used in your Google AdWords campaign.
Select one of the pages you are using now,
and open it up for editing. You may use a
web authoring software (Dreamweaver,
FrontPage, etc.) a Content Management System
authoring tool, or an html text editor. You
must be able to edit to the html code in
order to place the javascript commands used
by Conversion Widget.
For your first
pages, we suggest editing to a Headline or
first sentence. Also, just as you use one
landing page today to direct an ad group of
keywords, you may also use a page with
Conversion Widget similarly for groups of
keywords (think “themes”). Into the html of
the desired sentence or header of the web
page, place the following command exactly as
it is below:
<script
language="JavaScript" src="ConversionWidgetG.js"></script>
Wherever you
place this command into the html the web
page will display the keywords in this area.
Please note that if your code placement is
being inserted into “formatted” html text,
you will need to insert the command in a way
so that it retains the same formatting.
Example:
<p><font face="Tahoma">
Our Company is a Master Stocking
Distributor for
<script language="JavaScript" src="ConversionWidgetG.js"></script>
Petroleum Ball Valves, Duo-Chek, Uni-Chek
and Noz-Chek valves. We carry a full
line of Duo-Chek valve products in Iron,
Bronze, Cast iron, Cast Steel, Stainless
Steel and other Elastomers and Alloys.
</font></p>
Please note
that you will not be able to “see” the
keywords as you are editing these pages –
they work based on a referral from a Google
paid search. They must be uploaded and
receiving an actual paid-search Visit in
order for you to accurately view the
placements.
Here’s a
couple of tips to help with this:
-
Allow
plenty of room for the page to fully
display long search terms
-
Retain the
same typeface font and size in order to
retain the page layout
-
Think
about the Visitor and their search terms
in order to present a “natural”
experience
-
After you
upload the file, perform a few searches
and click on the paid ads to view the
web page layout
3. Save and
Upload the New Landing Page
Once you have completed the new web page
with Conversion Widget, do a Save As to save
this page as a .asp format. Now, upload this
file to your web directory. In addition, you
will need to upload the Conversion Widget
javascript file (ConversionWidgetG.js) into
the SAME directory. It is necessary
for the reference command in your web pages
to point to the Conversion Widget .js file.
Download the
conversionWidget
4. Access
Google AdWords
You’re almost done. The last step is to
now change the landing page reference used
in your Google campaign. Access the campaign
and ad group for which the new conversionWidget page has been developed. Simply
change the name of the Destination URL to
refer traffic to the new .asp page you’ve
created. Then select Save Ad.
